Tuesday Talk

Since it's new year it's time for new link ups. I am really excited about this one. Erika and Ashley are hosting a Tuesday Talk on the third Tuesday of every month. We get to chat about anything we would like to chat about. ;)

                                                 **************************************

Today I am going to chat more about our current home...last week I discussed a little about our bedrooms and how we keep things organized inside. Today I will post a little about our living room. Come on in...

                                            *****************************************

We have been through many stages in this room. When I look back at pictures I can tell what time period we were in as a family based on our living room decor. Ha ha! Funny, right?!?! The current "look" is how it's been for a while and that's because we love the way it looks and it works for our family. It was a lot harder when the kids were babies and the things needed were bigger. Then we went through a stage where their independent play couldn't be alone in their rooms so we stored lots of toys in the living room. (That wasn't my favorite stage for sure.) Now it's a functional living room for our family and where we all spend the most time....well, except for me because let's face it I probably spend most of my time in the kitchen. ;)

                                                 ***************************************

We don't have a eat in kitchen so our table is included in our living area. (#1 on my list in the next house...a place for my kitchen table OTHER THAN our living room.) We have tried to separate the two areas even though it's open...we did this by  putting a large light over just the table and arranging the furniture of the living room not incorporating the table. I hope that makes sense. The entertainment center stores all the cords and boxes required for our television, blu-ray, etc. Making sure the cords are hidden makes a room appear WAY less cluttered. We have the movies in the entertainment center as well.

                                                ****************************************

Since the room is small we found "tight" furniture fit best. I doubt that is even a word to describe furniture but what I mean is we don't have over sized or stuffy pieces. We didn't loose seating space we just lost bulk. The same goes for the pillows. We just pillows that are almost perfectly square instead of big fluffy ones. Again, it is just way more practical for the space we have but don't worry...we don't loose any comfort at all. We have this couch and we use the space underneath for storage of extra blankets and 2 t.v. trays that we use often as well. We have 2 of these couches. We love them so much. When we purchased them you could get a myriad of cover colors. The covers actual fit the couch and zip on tight. They can be taken off and washed SUPER easy. They have help up SO WELL for us too!!! We have these chairs which are SUPER comfortable and hold up EXTREMELY well.

                                                *************************************

I am not one to have pictures/frames on every wall. I feel you can make a home feel comfortable without pictures plastered on every wall. And again, it makes a small space feel cluttered. We have picture shelves with frames to display some of our favorite pictures. When I get a new picture that we love then we replace the old ones.

                                      ***************************************
So that's our living room in a nutshell. Less is more people!!! It's not about the things inside it's about what's important to you and what makes your house a home. If you have questions feel free to leave them in the comments as well as any other suggestions on how to organize in a small space. I am sure others would love to hear!
