Maximizing our space...

As I mentioned in an earlier post...we SOLD our house! (Please continue to pray all the details continue to work as planned.) We currently live in 888 sq. ft. While there are many things we are looking for in a new home there are SO MANY things I don't want to forget about this one. A major part of this house is how we organized our space. I am going to break this information up into a few posts about how our family of 4 stays organized in 800 sq. ft. I think it would be easiest for me to start with the bedrooms.

                                        ****************************************

#1. We don't have dressers. Most of the kids toys have to be in their room because we won't have a play room. Our basement is finished but there are toys down there as well AND let's be real...the 4 and 6 year old aren't 100% to play in the basement alone since that's where the monsters live!?!? LOL! Since we don't use dressers we have to maximize our closet space. They have a single door closet. ;) This requires me to constantly be on top of the clothes in their closet. They only have what currently fits. I don't keep clothes once they outgrow them and if I purchase clothes for the season ahead I have a Rubbermaid in storage that I check regularly (so I don't forget about what I purchase.) I usually write a note in my planner every 60-90 days or so to check the bin for clothes. Just a suggestion. ;) As far as inside the closet goes...we paid a little extra and went to the Container Store. The closets are ELFA. It's TOTALLY worth EVERY PENNY!!! Every time their pants get a little longer I can move the bar/shelf up so they aren't touching the floor. Everything is adjustable and everything has a place. It really is one of the best things we added to this house.

2. The rooms are only big enough for a twin bed so they both have smaller size frames. Sloane has THIS BED and Wyatt has THIS BED. We use underneath the bed for storage as well. There are Rubbermaid bins with wheels that helps aid in pulling them out and putting them away. I have tried to purchase off brand or cheaper storage containers and in this case...you get what you pay for. Just spend the money up front because you will eventually be buying the good ones anyway. ;) You can thank me later.

                                                  ************************************

3. They both also have THESE that they use to store their toys. Yes, certain toys go in certain bins. This is something that has been stressed to them since they were super little so it's just a normal thing for them. They play and put things back into the bin where it goes. You can buy doors and drawers for the holes as well. At this point in our lives the bins do the trick. We have purchased the ones from IKEA and they hold up really well. They also hold a lot more than you would think.

                                                **************************************

Those 3 things are a baseline for our bedrooms. I am totally open to any questions you may have...just leave it in the comments.
