Baby Elliott

Kelley and I hosted a baby shower for a friend at my parent's this weekend. It was so cute! We did it early in the day and were able to serve muffins, fruit, and light breakfast foods. We are excited to meet baby Elliott soon!

The Kids Behind The Blog

This is only my second month linking up to The Kids Behind the Blog. You can see my 1st month HERE
It has been fun to ask the kids the questions and listen to their cute little answers! You can really other blogs who link up over at Our Pretty Little Girls...

*This picture showed up in my TimeHop #lovehaterelationship and I couldn't help myself...it's one of my favorite pictures of these 2...We should have know from this moment on the personality of Sis ;)

What is something I always say to you?
Wyatt: "I love you"
Sloane: "Good morning sunshine"

What makes Mommy happy?
Wyatt: "hugs and kisses"
Sloane: "me and Wyatt staying with you all day"

How do I make you laugh?
Wyatt: "tickle me"
Sloane: "tickle me"

What do you enjoy doing with me?
Wyatt: " snuggle"
Sloane: "anything I do with you" #ididntmakethatup #sheismyshadow

What is my favorite thing to do?
Wyatt: "play legos"
Sloane: "staying with us forever and being the mommy following machine"
(Yes, she has names herself the "Mommy following machine." She follows me EVERY WHERE...she even rests her hand on mine when I crack eggs, stir dinner, take a drink of water...)
She is my shadow and doesn't leave my side! I am trying to soak it all in because I know one day I will miss having a shadow. ;)

My kids don't nap....Quiet Boxes pt. 2

I am SUPER excited about summer break with the kids. I posted the other day about scheduling some "quiet time" in our summer days. I know it will be extremely beneficial to all of us. Don't get me wrong...we will have our curl up on the couch and watch tv together afternoons but these boxes will be great to help them "stay focused" on a task during the summer. #teacherinmemaybe

With that said I do want the boxes to be age/skills appropriate. I have been reading and researching lots of fun ideas...that don't break the bank. ;) When I posted last time I mentioned I would have 5 categories.

1. Books
2. Coloring/writing
3. Game/puzzle/blocks
4. Free play
5. Fine motor

1. Books- I am excited to add the library to our weekly routine this summer. It's a goal of mine to read more this summer so it will be perfect outing with the kids. My plan: to let them pick some "free" books that they decide on with no help from me but then I will "guide" them in a certain direction for a few other books. (i.e. correct level/content for each child) I also plan to let them each pick a book on a CD each week. We read a lot aloud to them but I want to really work on them sitting, listening, and comprehending them as well. Wyatt will have a reading test each week using comprehension skills and I think this will help prepare him for what's to come...;)

2. Coloring/Writing-

#1-3 These are all 3 workbooks with skill level worksheets. There is anything from tracing, letter/numbers, to write words in these books. They are SUPER reasonably priced as well. (Amazon, Target, SAMS, Costco, and even the Dollar Tree) #4 is plain paper with colors and markers: I plan to only give them a certain number of blank pieces of blank paper on these days because let's be real...they would choose to  "draw" all day long over doing a worksheet. #justbeinghonest #5 Coloring inside the lines with markers that won't get messy every where, plus it's fun to change it up a bit. I won't put #4 and #5 together. #6 another workbook-awesome one BTW #7 I saved the best for last...a Doodle Book...and not just any Doodle Book...the one I used as a kid ;) It's totally still applicable!!!

3. Games/puzzles/blocks-

#1- A form of character matching
#2 the good ol'Monkeys in a Barrel game
#3 Lincoln Logs
#4 Puzzles
#5 Matching and memory
#6 TinkerToy set

*I will mention there are about 12 weeks in our summer. These are just a few of the ideas I have decided to use. I already had all this at the house. They go through spurts of playing with all of these items. I actually put most of these things "away" for the next 4 weeks so they will be "new" again for summer. It's a easy was to make them feel like they have new toys without spending a dime! ;)

Also included will be:

#1 train tracks w/trains
#2 Potato head toys and accessories
#3 Marble track

*These are all 3 activities I plan to create directions for as the summer goes on. For example: I will have pictures and/or words of how to dress the potato heads. I will have a certain shape track I want them to build...etc. but the summer will being with them playing and using their own imagination with them.

4. Free Play- this is self explanatory. It's free play with anything in their room...that doesn't require them to ask for help. ;)

5. Fine motor- to be continued...I am creating most of these and am still deciding what is the best way to complete these boxes.

Do you have suggestions for boxes? Have you made boxes? What do you do during your summer days at home?

Party much?!!?!?

Phew, what a weekend!!! Another awesome Mother's Day in the books. ;) We were busy this weekend but it was all fun stuff! We attended a 1st B-day party Friday night after a fun #fridayfunday with the kids...#icecreammustache #freckleface

This picture is too good not to share...it was mix match day at school on Friday. This is the first time in 3 years Wyatt has participated in a "fun day" like this. He just isn't a "crazy" kind of guy...but Sis on the other hand....these are the faces I got when I asked for a silly picture! LOL!

Saturday we had 2 more b-day parties to attend...one with kids....

and one without...

Sunday morning we woke for church...the kids were so excited to give me their presents and cards. Nothing beats homemade gifts from your children...#sheisamess #proudartist

We visited Mark's g-ma in the nursing home and then had lunch at his parent's. It was different to not see my mom on Mother's Day this year but I am heading to see her this weekend! I am excited!!!

Wyatt and Sloane have their preschool picnic this Friday. We are praying for good weather and for Friday to be here soon. Ha ha!!! #itsonlymonday

Mother Favorites

I am linking up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci for another Friday Favorites. I haven't really posted about Mother's Day but FYI it's coming soon! #bettergetmoving #hopeyoudidn'tforget

I am so blessed to have some AMAZING women in my life! We have a super crazy weekend ahead of us but I am looking forward to all the festivities!

My favorites this week...MOM'S!!!!! This lady (pictured above) is one amazing woman. She leads by example. She is honest and ALWAYS there for me. She would bend over backwards to help me. She has shown me how to love my husband, think of others before myself, and most importantly be a woman of God. I won't go into all the mushy stuff...but WOW...I am blessed to call her MINE!!!

Another favorite...my MIL....folks, she is better than yours for sure!! #sorry #notsorry I am so glad to have the MIL that treats me like her own. She is always willing to do what it takes to help us...she is an AMAZING Maw Maw for our little's too! Denise is pulled in a million directions but manages to still keep everything running day to day!!

Thanks to both of the Mom's in our lives...the examples you set for me are perfect and I appreciate you more than you will EVER know!!! s

Every day in May...

I love Shay's "Every day in May" idea so much! I knew this would be something positive for the month of May. It's something small each day and totally doable but still challenges and pushes me to become a better version of "me."

I wrote out each day by hand...that's just how my brain works. You could use your phone, notepad, or even something you come up with...It's been fun to challenge myself with these small goals each day. Who knows, one of them may become a long term goal. LOL!!! Have you written your goals for May?

Planning a SIX year old b-day party...

I can't believe we will have a SIX year old in less than a month. I don't really want to talk about it AT ALL. I know it's going to happen whether I like it or not so...that means I have a party to plan!!! Wyatt is set on a Scooby Doo party this year. It's funny because it is a show he watches but really he just likes the characters and the toys that are themed to the show. LOL! Honestly there are only a few of the shows he watches because they scare him a bit.

I am not going to try to plan a party he doesn't want so...we have done some research together. I love hearing about the things he REALLY wants and the little things he comes up with. He is really excited to use all his Scooby Doo legos as decoration too! Ha ha!

Thanks to Pinterest we have been able to create a party board together. Here are a few fun things we have pinned:

You can see the rest of the board HERE

Any ideas for a Scooby Doo party? Leave me and comments....

Plans changed a bit...

This weekend didn't go as planned but we still managed to make the best of it...

Thursday my mom was visiting and it was PERFECT weather. We went to the zoo for a few hours together. We had so much fun! Wyatt and Sloane enjoyed showing Eesie all their favorites...

Friday morning Mark played golf so after I picked the kids up from school we went to a nearby park. They had the playground all to their selves. Just as school buses were pulling up we decided to take a walk around the lake. It was a long walk, LOL! By the end Sloane was on my back. ;/

Friday night Mark and I got to go to the Cards game! I hadn't been yet this year so I was super excited! Wyatt and Sloane got to hang with the Dumey's for the evening!! We got to the game early enough for the free hoodie giveaway and then spent some time in Ballpark Village before heading our seats.

Early Saturday morning was when things took a turn....;( Wyatt woke with a belly ache....and it was all downhill from there! I will spare the details but it wasn't fun for ANYONE involved.

All plans for the rest of the weekend changed. The kids were supposed to head over to Maw Maw and Paw Paw's for the evening but we had to cancel that. Sloane was upset so she still got to go hang with Maw Maw for a little bit during the day. Mark took care of the sick kid while I attended a baby shower around lunchtime.

The afternoon and evening was spent at home laying low. It was a nice break even though it was because we had a sick kid.
Sunday morning we let the kids sleep in. They both woke and were ready for the day. There was no sign of sickness. ;) Yahoo for something short lived- We took it slow in the a.m. and then went to visit Kyle and Shelly's new puppy! She is soooo precious!!

We ended the weekend watching the Blues get a win and a quick walk around the neighborhood together. (Sloane's allergies are SO BAD so unfortunately we are trying to limit her outside time.) May is such a tough month for us (Mark and I) as we are reminded so much of Ryder. The enemy is already attacking me and I can feel it! I am NOT going to allow it!

I am ready for a month full of positive thoughts and gentle reminders that GOD IS IN CONTROL NO MATTER WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US!!!!
