Let's Chat- Christmas Traditions

I already had my Meal Plan Monday post ready for yesterday so I decided it would be OK to be a little late to the monthly chit chat "let's talk." This month is sharing some of our favorite Christmas Traditions. I linked up with Erika and Andrea to share some of my favorite traditions...

Christmas Tree Hunting

It's only been a few years but we started picking out a real Christmas tree each year. I posted about our 2015 tree HERE. We go and pick one out as a family the weekend after Thanksgiving. It has become one of my favorite traditions we do each year.

I love taking pictures of us decorating for Christmas each year. I love watch the kids grow and even how much our decorations change from year to year. Wyatt and Sloane both LOVE to help decorate!

Send and receive Christmas Cards

I have mentioned it before but sending Christmas cards is one of my favorite traditions! We also have a special thing we do when we receive the cards...during dinner we pray over the family/s of the cards we get that day. I think December is the ONLY time I like to check the mailbox. Ha ha!

Wild Lights

Mark and I started going to Wild Lights at the STL Zoo in 2006~~ I can't believe it's been that long. ;) He actually proposed there during this event. #inserthearteyes Over time it has become a family traditions with his family...

Visiting Santa

I am totally the mom that makes their kid sit on Santa's lap. Every year growing up my mom would take us and my cousin to the mall to see Santa. I still love looking at those pictures from all the years past. I have loved looking back at Wyatt's and Sloane's as well!

Schumey Christmas

Kelley and I have been friends since Kindergarten. It's such a blessing that our families are so close! When we started having kids we decided instead of exchanging gifts we would always do something fun together! One year we painted plates, spent a day together, and last year we took a carriage ride to see lights. We haven't set our plans for this year but I am already super excited!!

We have so many more fun Christmas traditions but those are a few of my favorites!!

I am looking forward to an awesome holiday season!!!

Meal Plan Monday

Phew...Thanksgiving has come and gone...goodness it was GREAT! Time well spent with loved ones for us. *PERFECT* I tried to plan ahead and set my meals early last week. I decided what we would have, made my lists, but just didn't shop. I did that yesterday. ;) I am so excited for our menu for the next 2 weeks. Just like last Meal Plan Monday I used mostly recipes from Mix and Match Mama's cookbook.

Tuesday: Pesto Meatballs
Thursday: marinade chicken
Friday: Breakfast

Monday: Taco Salad
Wednesday: Breakfast
Friday: OUT TO EAT (Mama's day off)

Want, Need, Wear, Read 2016 edition

Last year I linked up with Andrea and posted about 4 items on my Christmas list. You can read about it HERE. We follow the popular "Want, Need, Wear, Read" idea...In case you're unfamiliar with the idea, it's where you give gifts with the idea that one is something that the person wants, one is something that they need, one is something for them to wear and the last is something for them to read! Mark and I once again...have decided to not exchange gifts and use that money elsewhere it was  still fun to make this little list though. ;)

This is a major big want...I know but my lap top is TERRIBLE! It's old and doesn't even work half the time. I would love to switch to a Mac since everything else we have is Apple. A girl can dream right!?!?

This is one of the reason's Mark and I aren't buying Christmas gifts...we need a new dishwasher. Our has been on it's way out for a few months now and it finally quit. We have been hand washing dishes the past few weeks. I can't wait to get a new one in it's place!!

I have given up on getting a pair of Hunter boots and moved onto these...I love how I would be able to wear them with jeans AND leggings. ;)

I think I mentioned me enjoyed to cross stitch people. LOL! I recently had a friend teach me and it's been so fun! There is this super fun book that I would like to have...it's kinda something to read!? ;)

So, your turn! Leave a comment telling me what you want, need, wear, read.
Happy Tuesday!!

Weekend Fun

We had a busy, but fun, weekend! Thursday night my SIL texted and asked if we wanted to join in on a first and last dip in their pool. They just finished the construction and for some crazy reason it was 85 degrees in STL on Thursday. I surprised the kids and loaded them up after dinner and they jumped right in. Such a fun thing for my SIL to suggest...it was crazy since we had guest coming for the weekend, it was a school night, etc. but it's those memories I hope last a lifetime!!!

It started Thursday evening when friends from out of town got to our house. Jake and Mark are friends from chiropractic school but have remained in touch. This was the first time their family of 4 has come to stay with us...to "tour the Lou." LOL!!

Wyatt and Sloane had school on Friday. They go 1/2/ day so after we picked them up we headed to Imo's Pizza. (Famous STL pizza) Jake and Hayley had a few things on their to-do list since they lived in STL while he was in school. ;) Imo's was one of them!

After Imo's we headed to the Science Center. We wanted to go to the STL Zoo but the high was only 48 degrees...so that wasn't happening. (They have a 4 year old and a 6 month old) Science Center was was a hit for the kids and dads for sure! Nerd Alert...ha ha ha!!!

After the Science Center we took them to get Ted Drew's ice cream. It was so cold but we blasted the heat and covered with blankets as we enjoyed the ice cream. LOL! We sat in the back of the car with the doors open...memories right!?!?!

Friday night we stayed at home and enjoyed spaghetti and meatballs. The kids all played so well together...nonstop! The evening at home was great! Saturday morning we woke to even more super cold weather so we had a low key morning before lunch. They wanted to eat at Pappy's BBQ. Even though we live in STL we had never been so it was fun for all! There is usually a long line so we wanted to get there right when they opened. We had an early lunch and decided to take a tour of a candy factory that was close to the restaurant. (Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate) The tour was good but would have been way better if they were "in production." They don't work on weekends. ;( It was still neat to see it all and get samples of course.

After the tour we went home to have a rest time....well...they dad's and kids rested while the mom's went shopping! Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and Target for the win! Once we got back we all order Chinese from a place nearby and had another great evening at home.

Sunday morning we woke up and all got ready for church. They went with us and we went to our "usual" McAllisters lunch after church. We gave hugs and said our goodbyes before we rushed off to meet family to see a movie!

We ended the weekend with a relaxing night at home eating leftovers and preparing for a holiday week!! It's only a 2 day school week then time to parrrtttyyyyy!! ;)

Making a list...checking it twice

We have been working hard on our Christmas lists over here! ;) Wyatt and Sloane are pretty good about making lists and sticking to them. What can I say...they know what they like?!?!? LOL! Mark and I try to split up our gift buying into a few months so it's not so much ALL. AT. ONCE. Does anyone else feel me? Wyatt and Sloane are entering into the age that Christmas is SO FUN! It is totally magical and I love it! Today I am sharing a few things the Schmitz family has on their lists.

For Wyatt:

Hatchimal - I know, I know...dumbest best toy ever but so cute! This is the first year a super popular toy has been on their list. Thankfully I already have this item purchased so 1 down 1 to go. Blah!

Basketball Goal - Wyatt has really shown interest in Basketball lately. He is playing on a school team after the new year and can't wait. He got a basketball a few months ago but needs a hoop. ;) This one has also been checked off. Phew!

WiiU - This item will be the death of me...he has been asking for this since last March. Actually it all started with a certain game and is only available on THIS system. It is on the top of his list. Let's hope Santa is feeling really kind Christmas Eve.

Lego Dimension (New Ghostbusters) - Wyatt and Mark absolutely love this game! Wyatt got it last year for Christmas and it's totally not something the newness wore off from. I mean, the gaming people (I don't know what to call them) totally know what they are doing when they create these things. Wyatt had all the ones that were currently out but a few weeks ago new characters were released, just in time for Christmas. This Ghostbusters one is super special because it opens a new world!?!?!? LOL!

For Sloane:

Hatchimal- Go figure...both Wyatt and Sloane want one of these things!!? I have Wyatt's checked off but Sis's....not so much! I am on it though- I hope. ;/

Barbie Pop-Up Camper - This thing, I mean really!!?!?! I wasn't a big Barbie player when I was little but Sis LOVES them! Barbie come in a close second after her baby dolls. She played with this camper at a friends house over the summer and it has remained on her list ever since.

LEGO Cinderella's Castle - Wyatt isn't the only LEGO lover around here. Sloane has been eyeing this beauty since it came out. We have been waiting for her to be a bit older before she gets it. Christmas time is perfect!

Easy Nails Spa kit - So as I was writing this post I noticed this item is out of stock. ;( I am hoping this is just online or for a short time. I didn't think the nail spa would be a hot item. LOL! Sloane thinks this is the greatest thing. Something that paints her nails by it self!?!? Thanks YouTube!

For Mark:

Bose Soundlink Color - We purchased one of these for our beach vacation this summer. Somehow Mark and I constantly BOTH wanting to use it as the same time! He takes it EVERYWHERE and I love having it at home during the day as well. It would be perfect to get him HIS OWN for Christmas. ;) Then we wouldn't have to share. Ha ha!

Twofaced Polarized Sunglasses -

LEGO White House - I know I mentioned Wyatt and Sloane loving LEGO's but they didn't come by it naturally. Mark loves building them as well. He has shown interest in a few different ones and the White House is one of them on his list.

Golf Balls - Mark plays golf almost every weekend. He doesn't use a lot of balls, thankfully but Christmas is always a good time to stock up. He is kinda picky and golf balls aren't cheap. ;)

For Me:

Hallmark Disney Silhouette -  I have had my eye on this for a while. It's so pretty and we are Disney lovers over here. I like how it's simple but has a total fun side too!

Sperry Top Siders - I love these duck boots! I wanted to get a pair last year but never actually purchased them. There are a lot of options out there but these are my favorite for sure!

Cross stitch people - Laugh all you want but I am loving my craft time lately. A few weeks ago a friend taught me how to cross stitch and I have been a busy bee! I really want to splurge on this awesome book but it's too close to Christmas to do such a thing. ;)

Toms - I am in desperate need of a new pair of Toms. I think I need a plain neutral pair to go with my uniform...Ha ha! My uniform which consists of leggings and a cardigan. ;)

What about you? Do you have special things on your Christmas list? Ideas for kids, teachers, or even husbands?

HAND It Over - Turkey style

When Wyatt and Sloane were little we completed so many hand print crafts. It's so fun and always makes a great gift. There are lots that use paint but also some that have easier clean up. ;) As I scrolled through Pinterest the other day I couldn't help myself looking at all the fun "hand turkey" crafts.

These potholders require paint but would be so fun to take to the hostess of Thanksgiving dinner.

This construction paper turkey is a little less messy and I am loving the turkey legs!!

I love how this craft used different textures by adding the feathers!

What fun hand crafts have you seen and wanted to try?

Meal Plan Monday

I try to meal plan before I go to the grocery store...it makes things so much easier (and cheaper ;)). There are 2 paydays a month and they are Fridays so I usually make the grocery trip the Monday after payday. It keeps the budget on track too! These next 2 weeks are little crazy since Thanksgiving is during that time but I made sure to schedule that in.

Thanks to my mom for gifting my the best cookbook EVER meal planning is pretty quick for me. So...the next 2 weeks of meals:

Wednesday: Crock pot chicken

Thursday: Enchilada Chili

Friday: Out to each
Saturday: Spaghetti and Meatballs
Sunday: Leftovers

Tuesday: Breakfast
Wednesday: Out of town
Thursday: Thanksgiving

Take a look at the few links I attached! If you haven't checked out the cookbook you should TOTALLY do it! If you want some easy quick meals that even children love it's perfect!!

Friday Favorites

It's been a few Friday's since I have linked up with a Friday Favorite's post. I am excited to share this week...as I started to upload my pictures I realized maybe I am a little more ready for Christmas than what I think I am. LOL!

I made these this week and they turned out SO CUTE!! I wrapped them in individual little bags and actually decided The Royal Dozen is going to sell them until Thanksgiving.

Have you heard of "turkey in disguise?" If not, do yourself a favor and google it. Wyatt brought a turkey home last week and we had so much creating him a disguise. Wyatt totally picked this out all on his own. LOVE IT!!! It has been fun to see all his classmates turkeys as well.

This girl...I had to share this picture. I was cleaning up leaves and mowing (hopefully the last time this year) and she decided she wanted to help. Her allergies have been in full force lately and she knows that too much "outside stuff" makes her start coughing. She decided to use a towel and a bag to pick up leaves...one by one...folks this was a sight for sure!! The fact that she thought of this all on her own...ha ha ha!!

Target and Christmas 2 of my favorite things!! Insert ALL THE HEART EYES

Voted- glad that's over and done!

I found this mug earlier in the week and couldn't resist. I do love a good mug but had some self control. My cabinet is full...I currently have no space for another mug so this one went back on the shelf but not before a quick selfie. ;)

Happy Friday everyone!!! Hope you enjoy your weekend!!!

Stranded with...

I love participating in this link up with Shay and Erika. It's once a month but it's so fun!! I already had a post scheduled for yesterday so I didn't get to post it on the actual day so I am linking up a day late. ;)

This month he topic is outerwear. Just like most of the ladies who linked up stated...I am a little unsure of this island if it's going to be cold. I love me some good snow days but when I am near the ocean with sand between my toes I better be comfortable sporting my swim suit. LOL!

But outerwear is the topic so...since having kids I have turned into a person who doesn't really wear a coat. It's just too much of a hassle in my opinion. Dumb, I know but oh well. What I have switched to in place of most of my coats is a good vest!

Like this one:
North Face Nuptse 2

I wish I could splurge and get this one though...
I heart anything buffalo plaid this season!!!

Wyatt and Sloane have both had coats like THESE  the past few years but they are officially too small. We are on the hunt for a good winter coat so I am open to any suggestions!

Now let's hope it doesn't get too cold on that island...;)
