Book Club- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs pt.1

Caroline is hanging with us for 2 days this week. I love following Momfessionals blog! She is a teacher and she recently planned a super fun day with her kids. The activities went along with a book, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." I knew I had to do this with Sloane and Wyatt before school started back. It was perfect that Caroline was with us as well! I did split the activities up into 2 days because Sloane and Caroline play SO MUCH make-believe together I didn't want them having to be "structured" all day.

We started the day with a YouTube video of the book while they ate a snack. ;) They loved it! I couldn't get my computer to pull it up for some annoying reason so we had to use the iPad. It worked fine but not what I wanted. LOL!

After listening to the book I gave them each a poster board, scissors, glue, cotton balls (clouds) and some food adds from the grocery store. The day before I had a picture of each them acting as if something was falling from the sky. I just printed them out and cut around their bodies. I love how different each of their artwork was...

Next up...city building!!! I asked them to build a city using Duplo Legos. While they were building I prepared 2 boxes of spaghetti noodles. Once they were finished building I brought in 3 bowls FULL of noodles. They had a GREAT time acting as if noodles were falling from the sky onto their city. Let's be real though...I think a lot made it to their mouths as well. ;/

It was super easy clean up. I put all the legos in the sink with soapy water and let them soak for a few mins. I rinsed them off and let them dry on the counter for a bit before putting them away. Easy and fun...it's a win win!!!

While I begin preparing lunch I sent them downstairs to jump out some energy!!

The book begins with the family enjoying their morning pancake breakfast so lunch was served...pancakes in the shape of umbrellas. ;)

Since I was already in the kitchen making food I decied to go ahead a prep for dinner. I meal planned for 2 weeks at a time and we are on day 2 of our second week. Pizza meatballs was on tonight's menu. We haven't ever used this recipe before but Mix and Match Mama never disappoints so I can't wait to taste it! The girls wanted to help and Wyatt opted out...and yes, Caroline and Sloane remained in princess dresses throughout the entire day.

Sunday afternoon I asked Mark's mom to draw a little picture with houses and such...I wanted the kids to use watercolors to paint their pictures. Andrea actually drew 3 different pictures and used crayon so the paint wouldn't run. Note to self: do that next time. It was fine and they all stayed in the lines pretty well but it would make it easier. Denise drew it and I traced it with black before just making multiple copies. Wyatt painted for about 15 mins. and I think the girls would have painted for hours had we not needed the art dry for the afternoon. LOL! I had to guide them along...

After the watercolor dried they glued marshmallows and fruit loops to their pictures...falling from the sky! I love how well they painted. Every time we paint with watercolor I love it even more. It's always so pretty!

Don't miss pt. 2 of our book club tomorrow! We have LOTS more fun activities planned!!

  2. It's the perfect place for a reception -- before or after the event, with plenty of space for people to move around. The DC wedding venues were large with room for plenty of tables. There is a stage to the right side of the room, where your presenters can be seen or the bride and groom can take their vows.

I always love what you'll have to say...thanks for stopping by!
