February Bucket List

It's that time again...time for my monthly bucket list. I encourage you all to create one as well. I like have one for the year but it's great to have some short term things you want to accomplish as well. ;) Don't forget to head over to Erika's blog and read her February bucket list too! A Little Bit of Everything always has a great list! ;)

1. Throw a Valentine play date party...I try to have a play date once a month at the house. I love a theme so Feb. is always a favorite play date of mine. ;) Invites are out and planning has begun, I am so happy this is on my bucket list. (You can read about last year's party HERE.)

2. Do more "intentional" crafts. I have always done crafts with the kids. They play with play doh and paint ALL THE TIME. I am not a mom who doesn't play with those "messy" items. (I guess it's the elem. teacher in me) I have stumbling upon so many fun crafts lately that have some awesome lessons and teaching points with them. I want to try to complete FOUR in the month of Feb. We shall see...

3. Prepare for Sis's b-day party. ;) I am super pumped about this...as usual. I have a themed that she picked out. (For all you rolling your eyes, I have her options over and over for about a month and she consistently choose this theme...) Stay tuned for details! ;)

4. Make another round of freezer meals. Mark and I did this back in the end of Dec./early Jan. and LOVED it. It came in so handy and saved us SO MUCH $$$! I want to find a few more meals so we can change out the ones we didn't LOVE and have a little variety to the mix as well. Stay tuned for those meals as well...

5. Make 3 quiet time boxes with/for Wyatt. I have been doing a little research on what to put in these and I think I am ready to create a few. Wyatt doesn't nap and hasn't for over a year now but most of the time he does have a "quiet time." I think create a few quiet boxes would be awesome. He is a great independent player and loves all things gross motor so I can't wait to get started.

6. Lastly...CLOSET CLEAN OUT!!!! Above is the button, you can grab it and join me as I get my closet, the kids closet, and even my house ready for SPRING! ;) Grab the button (please link back to my blog) and post on Wednesday, Feb. 5th your items you wish to sell and being preparing for Spring. I will post more details soon!

MELT my heart

I am pretty sure this is one of the first crafts I "pinned" on my boards. It has just been sitting on a board for a while now...waiting for me to give it a try. ;) Wyatt saw the picture the other day and asked about making his own crayons. He thought this was an awesome thing to do so today during Sis's nap we took full advantage of our time! We separated all his crayons that were already broken into a bag. *If I was doing this as a gift or Valentine I would have only used the same colors or even stuck with a theme but these were just for fun.

He really enjoyed peeling all the paper off. This is something he isn't really supposed to do with his crayons or I would have this mess pictured above EVERY time he colored. Ya, not thanks! After we peeled off all the paper I started chopping...yes, with a good knife. Oops...

After cutting and peeling we put them all in a bowl...Wyatt was SO excited!!!

We put them in the oven for about 15 mins. at 250 degrees....*the molds are rubber ones from IKEA for $.99 ;) SCORE!

As soon as they finished I set them outside for about an hour. All the reviews stressed the importance of letting them cool so that I did...

After they were cooled all the way I brought them inside for a little bit as well. They were room temp. and I used a knife to get them out CAREFULLY.

They LOVED them...after a minor situation where Wyatt thought they were cookies!?!?!? They were so sweet coloring and taking turns with different hearts.
This was a successful "pin" for SURE!

Going to the Chapel...

I can't believe it's taken me this long to post but...my SIL got ENGAGED!!!! I couldn't be more excited for her. We love Kurt and he has already become part of the family so this is just icing on the cake. The planning has already started and I am happy to say I love being a part of it. We are all (Mark, myself, and both kids) a part of the wedding and couldn't be more honored to be part of THEIR special day.

It was so exciting to see her the night they got engaged. Mark's parent's were at our house so her and Kurt walked in to "chat" for a while and see the kids...so we thought....and they SHOWED us the news!!! There was lots of screams, tears, and laughs had by all as the excitement rose!

Kiki-I can't wait to be a part of this special journey with you! You deserve the BEST! Enjoy this planning time...you will look back and enjoy it! ;) LOVE YOU!

BURSTing with JOY

It's been a few days since I posted...it was an IKEA weekend. Enough said. We are working like busy little bee's trying to get a few "house to-do's" off our list lately, some fun-some not so fun. Anyway...during Sis's nap the other day Wyatt and I worked on his preschool class Valentine's. You can never be too prepared right?!!? We had the chance so we took advantage of it. It was a fun little craft  we completed together. When deciding what I Wyatt wanted to make for his class we sat down and looked through magazine and brainstormed together headed straight to Pinterest. ;)

I found this fun FREE printable HERE. I printed it on white card stock paper. It was super easy to cut them out. There were 4 on a page so I didn't need very much paper. I grabbed a box of 25 wedding bubbles from JoAnn's Fabric for $5 and used a 40% off coupon-SCORE!

We wrapped washi tape around the little bottle for an extra little decoration. Who doesn't love a little washi tape?!?!? I didn't find the tape that had the word "burst" but I didn't let that steer me away from this adorable Valentine.

Wyatt refused to Wyatt his name 20 times so I just asked him to color a pretty picture on the back of the squares. Ya, that lasted about 2 cards worth...then it became scribbles. Oh well, it's his Valentine right?!!?

After the backs were colored and the tape was wrapped around the bottle I hot glued the bottles to the paper. They turned out SUPER cute. Wyatt has already decided who gets what one...which I find rather interesting since they are all the EXACT same. Gotta love a 3 year old...

I can't wait to celebrate Valentine's Day with my little buddy!

White Chicken Chili

We had a few days of amazing weather last week. Like the days were your body starts to itch for Spring. We played outside, wore jackets, etc. then all of a sudden...ya, we woke up to another snow day with ice and snow on the ground. Grrr....I guess is only January and I got a little ahead of myself, and good ol'mother nature as well.

We ate our last crock pot meal Monday night so with all the freezing temps and snow on the ground I searched Pinterest for easy white chicken chili recipe. Obviously there are at least a million a lot to choose from...I read a few and decided on this ONE.

It was for sure as east as it looks...just a crock pot and a few ingredients, though I won't say it wasn't a bit $$. The total was about $20 for the crock pot full....it will probably serve 4-6 so I guess per serving that isn't bad but when checking out at the grocery with ONLY the items to make the chili I was a little bummed. LOL!
*also keep in mind we do purchase all organic when possible so that does play into the cost a LITTLE bit*

Here are the items needed:
  1. One package of chicken breasts (~2.75 lbs)
  2. One carton of chicken broth (32 oz.)
  3. Two packets of McCormick White Chicken Chili seasoning
  4. 1 small can of corn
  5. 1 medium can of pinto beans
  6. 2 small cans of hatch green chilies (4 oz. each)
  7. 1/2 cup-1 cup of water (if you feel like it needs more liquid)

I did use an already cooked chicken. My mom says it is the best chicken for the chili ;). I also pulled a coupon for a free one with the purchase of one...SCORE! That did mean I had to pull it from the bone but I managed...
What was left Wyatt ate EVERY last bite...

*Also note it was a bit on the spicy side. My little's usually eat their own meals (judge me if you want) so it wasn't a big issue but I would only use 1 or .5 of the chilies if you don't like spicy food.
*I also didn't need ANY water and still found it a bit runny...just FYI.

Directions:
  1. Trim the chicken…
  2. Add the chicken to the crock-pot
  3. Drain the corn and beans and add to the crock pot
  4. Add the chilies, broth, and water
  5. Cook for about 4 hours on high or 6 on low
Notes: You can cook the chicken from frozen, but it will take longer to cook. You can leave on low for the whole day if you need to, but on high it cooks relatively fast.
*I used the already cooked chicken but still cooked it for 6 hrs. Just FYI

We topped with sour cream and cheese. It was perfect and I will for sure cook again. A few notes though:  *it wasn't the cream white chili I have had before
*it wasn't cheesy
*it was still great and got a "make again" from the Mr. ;)

tempus fugit...time flies

I have mentioned before I have a few posts or articles I want to share with you'll. I want to have them in my blog book when it's printed but I also know there are others out there who struggle with the same feelings described in this post written by Imparting Grace.

Some days I feel like everywhere I turn there is advice on how to parent. Many conversations I have are about parenting...decisions that are HUGE (at the time), actions we take as parents, etc. I find myself thinking about the future and how these "parenting actions" will affect it.

Around this time the past few years I begin to have these feelings, the ones of "oh my goodness another year has passed." As Sloane's 2nd birthday approaches then within 2 months we are celebrating Wyatt's birthday too I can't help but get a little emotional.

I am not emotional because I want them to be babies again but just because of what we have, where we are, how much the need me/us, at this point in their lives. I know there will be a time where we are no longer needed to complete those every day tasks. There will be a day when Wyatt doesn't tell me each and every time he has to use the restroom. He no longer needs my help much in the bathroom but still feels the need to tell me when he has to go. It makes me laugh...but I still smile thinking these are the little moments I am going to miss.

There are days that creep by, ones that I can't wait for Mark to get home, ones I get angry or have no patience...when I put my head on my pillow I thank the Lord his blessing are new every morning...I am thankful for another day. There are also days I don't want to end, full of kisses and hugs, fun games, playful times together, and everyone is getting along. Each day is different...

I am blessed to be the one God chose to be their Mommy...I am so blessed...

Please take a second and read the post HERE about how quickly time flies...

Oh oh it's Magic...

A few weeks ago I took the kids to the Magic House. We have a membership (thanks to Maw Maw) so we have been going a lot lately. The kids love it! The actual Magic House doesn't open until noon but they have all the smaller children (1-6) stuff open at 10:30. It's perfect because by noon we are ready to pack up just as the crowd come in...;)

We had been stuck inside for 4 days in a row so we were more than ready to escape! The kids had a blast! I love watching them play so well together at places like this. Wyatt takes such good "care" of Sis when they are participating in the activities etc.

There is a little vet office that Wyatt LOVES! There is also a pizza parlor he enjoys playing in as well. ;) Sloane loves the grocery store and even the water table.

We went back last week again and took Mark with us...we all had a blast! Post coming soon...

Feel like you are losing control...

There are many things going on in our lives right now...just when I feel like we have our head a little above water something happens and it's back under water faster than the previous time. The new year has given me some time to really think about how I would like 2014 to go, what I want it to look like, ya know...what I am going to maintain control of. ;)

I stumbled across this blog post...for all my friends out there who like to BE IN CONTROL please take a second and READ THIS.

The "perfect" cut out cookie...

I know I have posted before about baking cookies and using royal icing. I love baking and have really found something I enjoy doing. Kelley and I first baked the cookies we used a few recipes and combined them...I think, for the most part, it's been perfected. The cookies keep their shape and are perfect to ice. I decided to share the recipe below:

Ingredients:
1 cup softened butter
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
3 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:
1. mix butter and sugar until fluffy
2. add the vanilla and egg
3. slowly add flour and salt until dough is formed
4. bake in 350 degrees for 10-12 mins.
5. the amount of cookies it makes varies to what size and shape cutter you use

I hope this helps those of you who have asked for this recipe. Feel free to "pin it" so you know just where to find it! ;)

Annual Curtis Christmas Dinner...

My parent's host a dinner usually around Christmas time with our dearest friends. This year everyone decided to save the dinner for after the holidays, after all the hustle. It was perfect! Everyone has "those friends," well I hope they do...but these are ours. Those friends that are actually family. The ones you can see every day or not see fro a while and nothing has changed. The ones you have memories with that go DEEP. It makes my heart so happy to see these pictures, to be a part of something truly amazing. There is something to be said for the exampled paved by our parent's...there are multiple generations in attendance now. It was SO FUN to be together!!!

My mom (and dad) do an AMAZING job of hosting. She is always so calm and everything is perfect. The tables are set, the menu created, and e-mailed, and most of all everyone enjoys themselves...truly enjoys being together.

Here are a few past posts about the dinner...2011, 2010, I missed 2009 due to being on bed rest. We counted and think this was the 9th of 10th year of having this annual dinner...

Genesis 1:28
"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth."

Also I can't finish this post without saying Happy Birthday to my SIL...

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday Shelly,
Happy Birthday to you....

Love you and hope you have an amazing day!

L is for the way you LOOK at me...

I know its' hard to believe but Valentine's Day is just around the corner...LOVE! I am not gonna lie it makes me a little giddy inside to think about a Valentine's Day party at Wyatt's school and even our little play group V-day party as well. ;) (You can read about 2013 Valentine's Play date HERE)

I think it goes without saying when starting to plan a fun day I immediately logged onto my Pinterest...duh! I have been thinking about a fun picture to take with the kids to create a few Valentine's Day cards for a few family members, our little friends, and even for Wyatt's school Valentine's. ( I know, I am so being one of "those moms" but I can't help myself. I do it because I love to...not for anyone else, except Wyatt of course.)

After FINALLY getting out of the house the other day and to Target I made a quick detour to the little's clothes section. I don't want to purchase something they will only get to wear once so I just snagged a few red items for both kids. Looking around and online shopping I did find these cute items for Sis from Old Navy.com:

and I couldn't forget some cute options for Buddy as well...

After knowing what we will wear for the big day I need to make sure I have decorated for the special day as well. I know I have mentioned before about having a few small decorations around the house for these small holidays. (You can see our 2013 decorations HERE) It's something my mom always did and I loved it. I think it just makes it a little extra fun...the kids enjoy the decorations and actually have really started noticing and enjoying them. ;) I have a little Rubbermaid downstairs but am always open to new ideas. I found a few cute decorations on Pinterest...most look pretty quick and easy to complete as well.

My apothecary jar is one of my favorite decorating items. I leave it up almost year round and just change the contents. It's so fun! I found a few new ideas for this year. Last year I used sweet heart candy...

I also looked for a few easy snacks to make for the play date. I don't want anything that's going to take lots of time or even ingredients. I think I was successful in finding a few cute ideas.

All that's left to make the party perfect is the crafts. I am going to do a separate post on this. This is already a long post and I have so many GREAT ideas for crafts and little games to play to make the party FUN! Hope you have enjoyed some fun ideas for a LOVEly V-day party!
