Happy New Year's Eve and my January Bucket List

First...Happy New Year's Eve:

We plan to party the night away with our BFF's and the littles. ;) We have some fun things to do with them and some pretty fun things to do after bedtime as well! What more can you do when you plan to ring in 2014 with a 1, 2, and 3 year old?!?!?

Erika and I have slacked a little bit when posting our monthly "bucket lists" but what better month to step up our game and create a post?!?! ;) I feel as if I always have an ongoing list of things to do throughout the holiday season but when January comes things start to slow down a bit. This January is no different...so I have come up with 4 things I would like to do:
2 with the littles
2 for Mark
1 for myself

As this year begins I have really thought a lot about some goals for myself in 2014. I wanted to create a "mission statement" (if you will) for 2014 so here you have it:

"Live simply, be intentionaltreasure the moment, while having less but doing more for him (Christ) ."

As we know months come and go so quickly. It seems we are all about the NY Resolution for a few months but then the hype kind of dies off. Instead of creating a HUGE resolution per say I created the above statement. I hope to remember this for myself throughout 2014.

Ok, now onto my bucket list:

January

For the littles...
1. take them to the Magic house at least 2 times
2. begin planning/creating/gathering the dry erase "quiet books" materials

For Mark...
1. Pray for him daily. My heart has been heavy about this...so often we seem to get caught up with things going on around us and I feel as if I fail at my job as a wife. (by my own expectations) The Lord calls us to put our husbands first...even before our children, this is hard but true. I am going to follow this calendar I found on Pinterest for the month of January.

2. Begin "a portrait a week" project, using Mark-my Mr.

For Myself...

1. begin and finish a book
I have one ready and waiting in my bedroom I just need to crack the cover.

What things do you have on your January bucket list?

It's that time...BEST of 2013

I thought it would be fun to out together a little "best of 2013" blog post. I am going to post the top 5 most read/viewed posts from They Call Me Mama! So...counting down from 5...

and the MOST viewed post of 2013 was:

1. Oreo Cake

I am sure that was way more fun for me than it was you but oh well, glad it's my blog! ;) I do notice I need to work on being a bit more creative with my titles. LOL!
Happy New Year, bring on 2014!!!

My 13 in 2013

Today I am linking up with Hadar, Kristen, and Traci for their 3rd annual year end linky party! I am using the 13 prompts given to us...so here we go folks:

13. Favorite article of clothing:

LEGGINGS!!!!

I know everyone has their own opinions about leggings...blah blah blah but I LOVE THEM! I pretty much live in them from Fall to Spring! ;)

12. Favorite movie you watched:

I know...I can't believe this is my favorite. I MIGHT have watched 5 movies this year...it's tough to go with a 1 and 3 year old and I don't prefer to spend date nights sitting in a movie...this was a cute movie and both the kids seemed to really enjoy it as well!

11. Favorite TV series:

I am sure I am not the only one but I. LOVE. THIS. SHOW. Phil gets me every time! I also can't deny I love sitting on the couch with my Mr. every week truly LOLing together!

10. Favorite restaurant:

Honestly this doesn't really have anything to do with the food...Mark and I love to sit and chat here. We have a few drinks and apps. and just enjoy each other's company. It's more about our experiences then for the actual food, but oh well! Ha!

9. Favorite new thing you tried:
This is probably a pretty big stretch but I did the NAKED eye shadow. I don't really wear much make up at all but when I do I want it to look right. ;) After a Bachelorette party weekend with friends I knew this was a must have...so I gave it a try and LOVE IT! It's worth every penny!

8. Favorite gift you got:

My camera....I am so glad I choose this camera! I have taken SO MANY awesome pictures this year and can't wait to learn more fun things about taking better pictures in 2014!

7. Favorite thing you pinned:

I do love to "pin" ;) but I think this was one of my favorite pins from 2013. So true...so very, very, true....

6. Favorite blog post:

This ONE about Lowering my expectations...

5. Best accomplishment:

I know this sounds so dumb and pretty selfish but...I saved enough money from "here and there" to be able to purchase myself this watch. I love it and took pride in the delayed gratification. ;)

4. Favorite picture:

This picture is one of the pictures taken for Sloane's 1st birthday pictures. I love it so much...it's just us. ;)

3. Favorite memory:

This is a tough one...since it's my blog and my post I am going to list 3. ;) We went on 3 amazing trips this year, one with Mark's parent's (Disney World), one with my family (Skiing in CO) and one as a couple with our BFF's . All 3 were AMAZING in their own special way! Memories were made together and that's what it's all about...

Orlando, May 2013 (sans children)

Disney World, Nov 2013

2. Goal for 2014:

Make better choices...all around! I am still working on adding details to this goal but as of now those 5 words pretty much sum it up. No matter what area, subject matter, person, or situation I want to INTENTIONALLY MAKE BETTER CHOICES.

1. One Little Word:

Christmas Play date 2013

Last week I hosted the monthly little play date with all our little friends! The kids always have a blast and the house always shows it. ;) It's so worth all the fun though! Everyone was to bring a small plate of cookies to share and I had a few treat there as well.

Wyatt and I made peppermint playdoh, using THIS recipe, as a favor for their little friends to take home. We also peppermint covered marshmallows using THIS recipe.

I used a few different sites to get fun ideas for a hot chocolate bar...it was a huge hit! We had such a great time and I can't wait until our fun January party!

Lowering your expectations...

I recently read this post on the MOB Society blog and found myself nodding through the entire thing...one of my favorite quotes:
"Real-life is bumpy. It very rarely goes as we expect it to go. This isn't intended to be a negative statement but rather an encouraging one: authentic living doesn't coordinate with unrealistically high expectations."

During many of my recent conversations with my mom she has repeated some of these words..."you need to lower your expectations." Again, this wasn't meant to be negative but there are so many areas in my life I have what I THINK it should look like, how I THINK that person should act, etc. so take a second and read this post. Maybe, just maybe there are some words for you as well. ;)

Decorating the tree...

We put our tree up a few days after our "normal time" but it worked out just fine. ;) Mark and I set up the tree with lights during nap but saved the ornaments for the kids when they woke up. (hence the bedhead on Wyatt) They loved adding to the tree. Experiencing Christmas through their eyes has truly been amazing this year. They are still young enough to not question anything but are just enjoying EVERY moment. It's a beautiful thing!

It's been a few weeks since I have posted a famous "phone photo dump" post. I know you'll are super excited to scroll through all my daily life photos but I love being able to look back at these random pictures of our day to day life. So if you want to see some really cute kids just stick around...
