Aunt Kiki and A year ago today...

You know those days that stick out in your head? The ones you always remember "last year this time" I was doing this or that?!?! I have about 5-6 days/dates that are in my head that I have emotions that remain so raw I don't think even time will heal. Emotions that are so crazy weird that I can still feel them, how some make me physically sick to my stomach. Then there are those days that make you smile from ear to ear when you remember where you were or what you were doing. Feb. 28th is one of those days...not necessarily an ear to ear smile but for sure a sweet feeling. Feb. 28, 2012 we were preparing for what we thought was going to be the Birthday of our sweet baby girl. (You can read about it HERE) We are all set and ready...problem was she wasn't ready so home we went. ;) Looking back I remember how upset I was but I know it's was all a part of God's plan. Looking back I don't know if our little Diva would have wanted to share a birthday with anyone. Ha! Feb 28th is Mark's sister's birthday. Aunt Kiki wouldn't have minded one bit to share her day, I am sure of it! On that note: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU AUNT KIKI!!! WE LOVE YOU! I can't wait to have a little girl time tonight with you on your special day!

Choo Choo Birthday Party!!

Last weekend we attended birthday party for our friend London! The party was at the Transportation Museum in the Creation Station room. It's such a fun place! We have had a few play dates there and the kids LOVE it!
It was set up so cute for all the little ones. It's about to be picture overload...just FYI:

The birthday girl serving Wyatt some food...obviously they were happy about it! ;)

London had a great time opening all her gifts. She was so sweet saying "Thank you" to everyone.

 Cake time....

Look at those lashes and that sweet face...beautiful!

The Mommies....

(Mark knew I was about to take this picture so he acted silly.)

It was a great party and we had a great time with friends!

Another great recipe...

I don't know if I have ever posted recipes and this is already my second one this week. ;) LOL! They are just way to good not to share. Last night I made breakfast for dinner. It's Mark's favorite and to be honest in over 5 years of marriage he has ALWAYS cooked when we have breakfast food. I came across a recipe for an "Oatmeal Casserole" that I knew I wanted to try. To make it a complete breakfast meal I knew Mark was going to need something more than just the casserole, hence the pancakes and turkey bacon I made for the first time EVER.

Wyatt wanted to help make the pancakes with me...and we even tried our skills at making a Mickey pancake. Wyatt wanted to add chocolate chips for eyes and a mouth.

We had a blast in the kitchen together!
Now-on to the cookin'

Baked Oatmeal Casserole
Total Time: 50 minutes
Serves: 6
(I found this recipe through Pinterest-you can read it here)

Ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup walnut pieces
1 cup raspberries {any berries work}
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
2 cups milk
1 large egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 ripe banana, peeled, 1/2-inch slices

Preheat oven to 375°F
spray the inside of a 10-1/2 by 7 inch baking dish and place on a baking sheet
In a large bowl, mix together the oats, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, half the walnuts, half the strawberries and half the chocolate.
(Save the other half of strawberries, walnuts and chocolate for the top of the oatmeal).
In another large bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, butter and vanilla extract.

Add the oat mixture to prepared baking dish.
Arrange the remaining strawberries, walnuts and chocolate on top. Add the banana slices to the top then pour the milk mixture over everything.
Gently shake the baking dish to help the milk mixture go throughout the oats.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until the top is nicely golden brown and the milk mixture has set. For an extra tasty top, sprinkle a tablespoon or so of extra brown sugar.
It was AMAZING!!! We loved it...even Wyatt ate a bit. ;)

Oreo Cake

Thanks to Pinterest there was another successful dessert prepared for a random "Schumey Saturday night." I stumbled across this recipe when meal planning for this upcoming week. (another upcoming post) Oreo Cake-sounds amazing right!?!?!?! It was amazing for sure!!

 All you need is:
chocolate box cake (with it's correct ingredients-eggs, water, butter, etc.)
cool whip
2 boxes of Oreo instant Jello
Oreos (optional for topping)

Prepare/bake the cake as usual according to the box.
Once the cake is finished poke holes using a straw (or something similar) and begin making pudding. Pudding directions say to allow 5 mins. for it to thicken, after about 2 pour it over the cake.
 Refrigerate for an hour...
While you are waiting you could play with some Lego and cute children. ;)
After about an hour you can remove the cake and top with Cool Whip. I crunched a few Oreo's and sprinkled on the top to add a little extra...as if it wasn't already good enough!
Hope you enjoy! It was as good as it looks for sure!

Baby Shower Day!

Last weekend Sloane and I attended a baby shower together. ;) It was so fun to get to take the girl with me! The shower was for one of Mark's friends from Logan. It was a great time and so sweet. She is having multiple showers so it wasn't tons of people and low key...perfect!
The girl who threw the shower has small children. When she started taking down the V-day decorations they got super upset...so what's a mom to do?!?!? She just left up the decorations and decorated around them. Keeping it real!!
This is the only picture I was able to get of Sloane. She doesn't sit still much anymore especially when she wants to explore a place she hasn't been before.

There was a fun clothesline full of new clothes for the baby boy!
Randi opening all her gifts! It was a great shower and she got a lot of good gifts...a few wants but some great NEEDS as well. ;)

Keeping in Touch

Last weekend Mark and I met some of his friends from Logan (Chiropractic School) for dinner. It is always a great time! We chat and catch up on everyone's lives. ;) There are 2 expecting baby's now, one engaged couple, etc. So much fun!!
We try to eat at fun places that we don't frequent around STL. Mark's brother's family came over to hang out with the kids. We didn't meet until 7pm so Sloane was pretty much in bed with they got here but the boys had a great time...

These were sent from Shelly while we were gone. The video monitor watching the boys ;) as they watched a movie in Wyatt's bedroom.
And well...you know....just lining all the 1,000 Disney figures up together....
We headed to dinner...Mark HATES when I have him smile for pictures like this when we are in the car but he was a good sport. ;)
We had dinner at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun too! It was a great date night out with friends! Can't wait until our next Logan dinner.

Getting crafty...

With the help of Kelley, I just did a little rearranging in Sloane's room with the wall hangings. I wanted to make a photo wall in our living room but Mark isn't a fan so I had to move my idea to her bedroom. ;) We needed 1 extra piece of artwork so this was the perfect time to let her have her first painting experience. It was so cute! She loved it...
I always have an extra canvas laying around. I have a few paints I have used in her room before so the colors all matched. I cut a big "S" out of paper and used double-stick tape to adhere it to the canvas.
I feel like I have a good mix of "OCD elem. teacher" in me. I feel that's kind of an oxymoron since it requires some "letting the child work" but not wanting to allow a mess or for her to mess it up. LOL!

This was a good project since it would be REALLY hard to mess up. It has the messy finger painting look but that was the goal. I did end up using a white out pen to touch up a few spots where the paint got under the letter.  She started out using the brush and loving it...what was I thinking?!?!!? She soon went to fingers then hands. ;)

We headed straight for the bath after we finished...

The finished product (thanks Pinterest):

And just for fun, a little picture of Buddy during his 1st painting project:

You are my Sunshine

A few weeks ago we had some super nice days. (weatherwise) We tried to take advantage of them and spend some time outside. Sissy LOVED riding in the wagon! It was so fun for her and Wyatt thought it was fun as well.
 Look at that baby girl...
He LOVED getting to pull her...and then he thought it was SO funny to run. Ya, me...not so much?!?! Ha!
 Look at those lashes...jealous?
 And her little checks...
 No words...
A few days later we were able to get out again. Looking back, we were so lucky! (As I type this we are in the middle of a MO snowstorm. Grrrr....)

I can't wait for Spring to be here! This was such a tease...I am ready to pack away the coats and gloves and bring out the shorts!!! ;) I wish hope Mr. Groundhog is right...
