Quiet Time

Wednesday evening our U verse stopped working. The kids were right in the middle of an episode of Doc. McStuffins and weren't happy at all. (#thirdworldkidproblems) We tried all the troubleshooting before putting in the dreaded call to AT&T. Not long after losing the t.v. we lost the internet. NOT COOL!!! Let me be the first to say I am sure some of you'll are rolling your eyes at this post or mumbling about tv watching and your opinion under your breath but....when you run a business from your home and you don't have internet it's not cool. I couldn't just load up and kids and head to a WiFi area and ask the 3 and 1 yr. old to sit quietly because Mommy had to work.

After an hour long wait and a 30 min. phone conversation we were on the books for a home visit Friday from 4-8pm. Ya, you read that right...not cool, again! Anyway, needless to say it made Mark and I pretty crabby. ;/ Wednesday night came and went and I prayed to wake up renewed and ready for a new day. Do you ever have those days when you are crabby and then get upset at yourself for being crabby?!?! Ya, that's where I was...I couldn't shake it.

Then to add icing to the issue Mark left town early (like 3am) on Friday morning to go on a guys fishing trip with his Dad, more on that later so I was along all weekend with the kids. Friday was so quiet. I didn't ever think we watched that much tv but this little 48 hour outage made me think a little...

It's a habit. It's on as background noise. The kids have a habit of waking up and watching a show or 2 but then usually being their day playing. The will stop every so often and watch a little but don't really just sit and watch. When they rest/nap the tv goes off and usually doesn't come back on until Mark gets home. I have the radio or Pandora on for noise.

With all this said the few days just made me evaluate the situation a bit more...really thinking about how we spend our time. The kids asked a few times but quickly found something else to do...one of the activities being stamps...a new fun art for both of them. ;)

They are currently LOVING stamps. I have so many from my childhood. (Thanks for saving stuff like that Mama!) I also have a lot I used when I was a teacher so...there are still some I haven't brought out yet. It's like getting a new toy each time I add a stamp to the bucket.  As I sat on the couch and watched them in silence ;) my heart was resting...I was at rest. There was no noise but their 2 little voices talking to each other and their crazy stamping going on. We were all content.

Sometime God takes something so small, as in no tv or internet, to show us something so big. He wanted me to just rest...rest in HIM. When everything around me is going non-stop, when we feel can't find a second to breath, when we feel like we just can't keep going in the direction we are headed...he speaks LOUD AND CLEAR. He just wanted me to rest and listen...

Do you need to sit, rest, and listen....is the Lord speaking to you? What's keeping you from listening to him?

  1. Eisley has probably lived 50% OR MORE of her life in only a diaper. :) I like to think being in just a diaper is like the baby equivalent of taking your bra off at the end of the day :)!
