Making a list...checkin' it twice...

A few days ago Michelle contacted me about doing a guest post. Michelle works at a spa called Skana, in a very small town in Upstate NY. She recently started reaching out to bloggers with the hope of sharing some of her ideas for summer....

Words from Michelle:
Making That Summer List

Suddenly it's summer. You look at the calendar and realize you've done little but continue your daily routine. Remember how exciting summers used to feel when you were younger. It felt like days would go on forever and there was always something to do and someone to do it with. There is no reason that this summer cannot feel the same way. Every summer I make a list of things I want to do for the summer and try to finish it. Here are a few ideas I have had, hopefully they can give you some ideas to get your own list going and make this summer one to remember.

Start A New Hobby

Hobbies are great outlets for relaxing and building confidence. Summer opens up a lot of possibilities to do something outdoors. Why not start biking, running or swimming. My grandfather kept a vegetable garden and puttered around in it every day. There are groups all over for every type of hobby out there, check craigslist and see what’s in your community. Find something that peaks your interest and dive right in.

Take A Day To Reminiscence

It is impossible to think about where you are going without remembering where you have been. I know it may seem like forever ago but at one point you were that carefree twenty year old walking down the street without a care in the world. Why not get in touch with who you used to be? Call an old friend from when you were growing up and see what they have been up to. Why not pour a glass of wine and look through some old photo albums. Did you keep a diary growing up? Looking back through that could be great for some laughs and reflection. Remembering what life was like at a simpler time can be a great way to reflect on who you are and who you want to be.

Get Away For A Weekend

Activities pile up and responsibilities stare you down. You blink and all the days are filled for the next two months. Before that happens, talk with your husband or significant other and make a date for a weekend rendezvous. Find a resort and book a suite. Resorts these days cater especially to the couples with varying interests. You can go to the pool or spa while he hits the golf course or poker tables. When the day is done meet for dinner dancing and some drinks. You will be surprised at how much getting away can help your general stress level and peace of mind.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Routine can be comforting but it can also be something we cling to. Think about the last time you did something new. Talk to your husband and suggest you join that neighborhood group. If that's not your thing, Google the local community college and take lessons in golf, swimming or jewelry making. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Put yourself out there by doing something people would never expect of you. It will stretch your boundaries and make you a better person. When it comes to stuff like this I believe there is no such thing as failure.

This summer doesn't have to go by in a blur. Figure out what you want to do this summer and then go out and do it. There is no better time than the present to seize an opportunity. I have my list in my mirror so it is one of the first things I see when I wake up in the morning. There is no reason you cannot remember this summer the way you remember those ones from so long ago.
