A night away...

I am in a wedding in Sept. for one of my dear friends from high school. There was a couple's shower this weekend in Columbia, about an 1 1/2 from where we live. The shower was in the evening and we knew it wouldn't end until late so we decided to make it a little overnight getaway. Kelley (who is also in the wedding) and Tyler were going as well so we knew it would be great to have a fun overnight double date. Ha, that sounds so funny! A big thanks to my MIL and FIL for watching the kids overnight! They had a blast like always and I am sure they will sleep hard when their heads hit the pillow tonight. A 1 yr. old and a 2 yr. old (yikes, that's crazy to even type.) can wear a person out for sure!

I miss the kids so much when we are gone, even if it is only 24 hrs. I was reading one of my favorite blogs (Lots of Scotts) the other day and her posts are always perfect for what I am going through. Her and her husband were preparing to leave on a week long anniversary trip and she was posting about her feelings regarding leaving her children. She said so many things that put my mind at ease. She quoted a character in a movie who states "After your kids grow up, your husband is the one who stays." Every time I get sad or make a comment about leaving the kids to Mark he always reminds me how important this example is we are setting. He wants our children to grow up seeing us, as husband and wife, making time for each other. Spending time together, loving on each other, and making it a point for them to have fun with their g-parent's. All this is healthy and normal...so I take a breath and enjoy the time with my husband. After all I should be thankful he says things like that, thankful he wants to set such a Godly example to our children, thankful he makes it a priority to spend quality time with me more than just over dinner and a movie.

So with that said....Saturday morning we loaded up the car and headed North! Kelley and Tyler went to college at Mizzou so they had a list of places they wanted to take us to eat. I feel like I didn't stop eating from Sat. morning until we got home this afternoon. LOL! We had a blast! We had lunch at Addison's and I enjoyed an amazing Mediterranean salad! We walked around downtown and looked into a few fun little shops. The guys had to stop at a fun ice cream place (Sparky's) to get their white Russian ice cream shakes.  We checked into our hotel and got ready for the shower.

The shower was at a winery about 25 mins. away. The hosts had a bus driving everyone there since it was a pretty long drive not to mention it wouldn't have been easy to find. ;/

The shower was decorated so cute! Perfect decor as it was at a winery...

It was a great night spending time with friends! We had a blast and can't wait for more wedding festivities! ;) Congrats to Liz and Tony!!!

  1. That seems like a really great and fun weekend. I think your point of view is right now. My husband and I are currently struggling making time for each other. We really need to work hard making changes because you are right, we are setting an example for the kids.
