Happy Easter

One of the many reasons I love blogging is how easy it is to look back and see where we were a year ago to the day. Many can look thru pictures and see but the fact that I have words/journaling to go with it is so sweet to me.
Easter 2012
You can read about 2012 here...

Easter 2011
Then 2011 we spent Easter at Disney World...you can read HERE.

Easter 2010
And then there was 2010...sadly the Easter we try not to think about, look at pictures from, or even relive the "feelings" we had about what our life was about to be like...Easter 2010

Easter 2009
Not that I am some crazy awesome blogger now but I was REALLY terrible back in 2009...ha!

Easter 2008
I hadn't started blogging yet so this is all you get from 2008 folks, boring right! LOL!

It's fun looking back and seeing how far we have come. We have grow (in more than one way) so much in the last 5 years. We have seen the Lord work in his AMAZING ways. As each year passed and I grow older the meaning of Easter tugs at the heart strings a bit more. Not that it can't be meaningful at younger ages but I just feel different emotions, different thoughts run thru my head, and I am now teaching littles about the meaning of Easter. (that's a hard task BTW) As Mark and I drove home from my parent's last night we talked about the sacrifice that was made. We discussed the emotions regarding knowing you had allow your son to die so others could live...talk about the ultimate sacrifice. Mark mentioned how without hesitation he would take his life/sacrifice his life for his son/daughter/wife but to imagine having to sacrifice your son's life so everyone else could live...it literally makes me physically ill. We had to stop talking about it. This happens often, we are talking and somehow get to a point in a conversation where we end with a prayer thanking the Lord we aren't there, aren't "in their shoes," or even don't have to think about this or that at the time...and we end it there.

Lately the Lord has been speaking a lot to me. The question "what define's me," has been playing in my head. The world wants us to be defined by stuff, money, "titles," homes, cars, and etc. I am so sick of it. My heart has been so heavy when I realize there are certain areas of my life I put so much time and effort into that isn't needed. I sweat the small stuff, I know I do. It's like I am surrounded by people who care so much about the stuff. Now that I am aware of this, now that I am making a conscious effort to not do this, now that I have so much conviction I get mad, it makes me sick, it makes me sad for people...there are people that constantly want more, are driven by change, and can't just be still.

This Easter carries so much conviction for me. It's a reminder to:

"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

It's almost like a refresher of my New Year's Resolution to "SIMPLIFY AND NOT REPLACE."
To be satisfied with less, to not always want more, to be still, and just listen to what the Lord wants to say to me, to us as a family.

My prayer today is you remember the true meaning of Easter and next time you think you are "making a sacrifice" you really take a step back and view from the outside in and think about the one true ultimate sacrifice that was made for YOU!

Easter tidbits...

*I am hosting a giveaway over at Lambert's Lately. Head over HERE to check it out and enter to WIN an Amazon gift card!

Tomorrow is Easter...tomorrow we will celebrate Jesus and him rising from the grave! The conversations we have had about Easter to Wyatt, who is now almost 3, have been quite interesting. He has really become interested in "baby Jesus" and EVERYTHING there is to know about him. It's amazing what goes on in that little brain of his! We did a few fun Easter crafts this week (post coming soon) and have some fun Spring ones ready to complete. Now, if only Spring would actually show up!
Our thumbprint chick family - 2013

I spent lots of time the past week looking for a dumb shirt to go under Sloane's Easter dress. It really frustrated me. (I post about this only because I want to remember the small things.) I think the main reason for such frustration is I want it to be warm, I don't want to have to have a LONG sleeved shirt under her dress. LOL! And just for the record a sweater wouldn't look right and would cover up the front so...that's the reason I had to find a long sleeved shirt. Ok, moving on from such trivial items. ;)

A few weeks ago I posted about my love for decorating for holidays...even the "small" ones. I know Easter isn't small but I know not everyone decorates for it. I think I mentioned how my mom always did it for us growing up and it was so fun and special I want to do the same for my kids. Wyatt helped put up the little bit of decor. and was SO proud to show Daddy when he got home. He said.."see, see?" Ha!!

A few weeks ago Kelley and I experimented with royal icing. I posted about it HERE. A few days later I wanted to make some more cookies. I decided to make a few Easter cookies. I had so much fun and Wyatt thought they were super fun!
I still need to keep practicing but if anything I had a great afternoon in the kitchen! :) When I posted the last time I didn't post the recipes to the cookies (that don't change shape) and the icing...
The cookies:

Author:
Recipe type: dessert cookie
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Ingredients
  • ¾ cups softened butter (I used 1 cup to get the right consistancy)
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (I didn't use this)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
  1. In a mixer combine the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and extracts.
  3. Slowly add in the flour and salt adjusting as needed ( more or less) until a dough is formed.
  4. Remove dough from mixer and place on a sheet of parchment paper.
  5. Lightly dust the top of dough with flour and roll out to 3/8″ thickness and cut into desired shapes.
  6. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Makes 24 3″ cookies

For the icing I we used this tutorial from Sugarbelle. I would suggest to use the proper tools when trying to create the icing. It's super easy once you get the hang of it! ;) Happy Baking and icing!

It's time to parrrtttyyyyy!!!! (pt. 1)

*Sooo....it's been a few weeks but I am just now getting around to posting about Sloane's b-day party. It was a blast and there are LOTS of pictures to prove it. I am going to have to post multiple posts so you'll don't get bored of all the pictures of the cutest girl in the world! ;)

We had the party at Mark's parents house because March is still pretty cold and we knew we wouldn't have enough space. It was perfect and they have such a great hosting area/space so
it worked out wonderfully.

I used the entry table to display our family shots from her b-day photo shoot. I love Costco's collages! (They are super cheap, can be picked up in an hour, and good quality.) As decorations I wanted something "light." On the entry table I just used fresh flowers and placed the bucket of lollipop favors.

Downstairs I used another collage and then set out her photo books as well. When celebrating a b-day I look at it as celebrating a YEAR full of life! With that said I had her birth book and other fun things laying around.

Mark's sister created this AMAZING board for us! It was so fun coming up with all the cute stuff to put on the board. Kirsten is so artistic and great at stuff like this...I knew she would do amazing!
My MIL made dishes of pasta, bread, salad, etc for the food. We had cake and a candy bar for dessert...

The present table starting to fill up ;) and the display of her monthly pictures. *Minus month 11 because I forgot to print it off...MOM FAIL. ;(*

CANDY BAR

CAKE: I didn't know how I would feel about doing an "old fashion"sheet cake but I am SOOO glad I did it. I am pretty sure Wyatt will have one as well. I really liked having the picture on it. I loved the cute, yet simple decorations, and you can't beat the price!

Let the sun shine in...

A few weeks ago we had a few BEAUTIFUL days. We took full advantage of them and headed to the park. There is a little park close to our house that is designed just for "littles." The kids love it!

They love to swing and really love to slide! It's so fun to watch Sloane follow Wyatt around and want to do everything he does. I am sure this will become not so cute someday. Ha! He loved helping her slide and even loved swinging next to her. ;) I can't wait for the wonderful Spring days and the many afternoons and picnics at our little park!

Last Friday night we went to Disney On Ice! It's a fun tradition we have with Kyle and Shelly. The kids always have a blast together. It's sooooo cute to watch them enjoy this together! Cruz and Wyatt matched from head and toe...

Sissy wore the cutest little Minnie outfit...

It was a super cute show...

We managed to only get one family shot and it isn't great but...oh well, right?!?!?! Keepin' real folks....
