Christmas Decorations and Traditions 2012

*I am linking up with Kelly's Korner for the Christmas Home Tour. Come on in...

This year the theme was "low key, not too much." I usually love to decorate every room in the house with some sort of Christmas decor. This year I just wasn't really feeling it. I am so happy with the way it all turned out. It's been perfect for this season and where we are in our life right now.

The tree is red, silver, an gold. I decided not to get ALL the ornaments out this year for fear of some getting broken and the stress that it brings. I love how the tree turned out! We have receive so many compliments on it.

We have the "Elf on the Shelf" *tradition* who has maybe moved a total of 5 times but its fine considering we have a 2 yr. old and a 9 month old. It's just fun to have him and I am sure he has some fun things up his sleeve in years to come. (Right now he thinks its super funny that he is making our star tree topper lean a bit to the right and bother this OCD mama!)

We don't have a mantel so we have to work with what we have...some day right?!?! (I will have a wonderful fireplace in our FOREVER home just FYI.)

I have displayed the "pictures with Santa" photos *tradition* and LOVE how this little area turned out! I will have the picture of Wyatt with Santa in 2010 by next year. Don't worry, it's on my to-do list for 2013. (Yes, it is already started.)

Under our tree we have the Little People nativity. It's played with every single day. The Disney bucket is what hold all the parts. Real "Christmasy" right?!? Also we have quite the Build A Bear collection of Christmas animals going.

A little to the left of the tree we have all the Christmas books together. They are also "read" daily. This year I made a felt tree and its been a huge hit! *Christmas crafts = tradition* I don't know who loves it more...me, Sister, or Wyatt. If you are wondering Mark doesn't really play with it. ;)

Like I said before I tried to keep things simple so the top of our entertainment center is as crazy as it gets this year. It's my only flat space to decorate too!

Sorry! The picture is kind of cropped. :( Wyatt and Sloane each have a tree in their room. Wyatt's is blue with lights. He has Disney ornaments. (Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Cars, and Toy Story) He also has the Little People Santa and his sleigh. Can you tell we love Little People around here?!?!

Sloane has a pink tree in her room. It doesn't have lights and I didn't bother adding any to it this year. Keeping it simple remember?!?! Her tree has Disney ornaments too. She has the Princesses and Fairies with a few white glittery balls. Also my mom gets the kids ornaments every year *tradition* and she got Sloane the cutest Mud Pie one this year so I hung it next to her tree.

Last year I made this fun Christmas card holder with chicken wire and a frame. I would love to leave it up year round but I have way to many photo canvases (that I spent $ on) and not enough walls so all wall decor needs a turn. :/ Each afternoon when we open the Christmas mail we take time to pray together for each family. *tradition* This is a simple prayer in 2 yr. old term but it works for us. Wyatt had lots of fun helping hang the cards each day. Since our home is older we have the little phone nook. I love this place for my Willow Tree nativity. I wish I had the rest if it but I wouldn't have a place to display it so its ok for now. Contentment right?!?! I have decided I am going to leave this out after Christmas for a while. Just a gentle reminder.

I have also started putting each years Christmas cards on a ring to set out the following years. It's been really fun to go back and look at the photo cards.

Those are a few decorations and fun traditions we have established. I am sure there are more and some require an entire post themselves so watch for more Christmas posts to come!

  2. I'm loving the hand print Christmas tree. Hope you don't mind that I'm going to be a copycat!

  3. The ring to keep each year's cards together, and bring them back years after is a nice idea. Might have to copy that one. :)
    Merry Christmas!
