Least Favorite Things about the Holidays

I love this time of year. The part that is my least favorite is how fast it goes by. This year Mark and I are trying REALLY hard to just enjoy being a family. We are making time for that by actually scheduling it and saying no to things if they are the same as our family time. It's worked well so far. We want to enjoy Wyatt's first Christmas.

Day 7:DIY Craft

Well...I have recently started selling my Christmas craft. Ha! I know I have already talked about Radiant Wreaths a lot lately so....just visit here.

Bummer....Day 6: Gift Ideas.... for me!!!

Yesterday was Day 6. I completly forgot. Bummer, I really didn't want to miss a day. Oh well. I am making it up now. So...gifts for me...I have tried to think of some items that I have mentioned I wanted or would like to have. I haven't bought myself much since Wyatt was born and because we are on a tight budget right now. Who isn't though right!?!?!
I love Vera Bradley! This is a new pattern and I LOVE IT! I have the "large hobo" in this new pattern. (Baroque)

This North Face vest...I think it would be a great winter coat. I know it doesn't have sleeves but would be easier than something big and bulky while carrying a baby. + I love vests and North Face is so warm!

I am a watch girl...I ALWAYS wear one. I love both of these. I only put the silver one on my list...:( Can't ask for too much! Ha!

There are a few more things that I had on my list but this is plenty for my blog. Ha!! We finished Wyatt's shopping this weekend! YAHOOO!!! Not much left to do! :)

Oops...now it's Day 5

Ok so the holidays threw me off a bit. Today is now Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas. Oops. Oh well...I mis-numbered but my topic was correct.

Ok so today is Day 5....Favorite Holiday Movie....yikes this one is a bit tough. I have a few favorites. We are setting our Christmas up today and then to plan to watch a Christmas movie tonight. (that may not happen due to the new Donkey Kong Wii game Mark recieved as an early Christmas gift from my mom...I play too so it's ok...ha!)

Also don't forget yesterday I had my big GRAND OPENING....

Day 5 Money Saving Tips and THE GRAND OPENING!!!!

Alright the time has come....my big announcement!!!! Are you ready??? I don't know.....well....after MUCH thought I have decided to open a small business. I am making/selling "Ribbon Wreaths." They are so cute!! The pictures don't even do them justice! :) PLEASE visit HERE asap! Don't miss it!!!

This is something that I had laid on my heart so...I had to begin. I had to listen to the Lord. :) Thanks ya'll!

Ok now...onto Day 5: Money saving Tips...

I pretty much have one that's always worked well for Mark and I....

we use an envelope system. We decide how much we need/want to have for a certain item and we divide that by the amount of weeks we need to have it by. We begin putting actually physical cash in the envelope with the label on the outside so when the time comes to use it....CASH IS KING baby! That's all I have today. That's with 2 hrs. sleep and shopping since 3am!

Day 1 "12 Days of Christmas"

It's late, I almost didn't post. I thought to myself, "come on, it's the first day of the 12 days of Christmas. Yikes! I am going to miss day 1?" I couldn't do it. So now it's 11pm Mark and Wyatt are both sleeping and I am blogging. WOW! What has this come too!??!!?

Before I get started....today was fun! My mom and sister came up to visit. Mom usually comes on Tuesday but since we are visiting them on Wednesday they decided to come up and do a little shopping here! :) It's always a great time hanging out with sista and mom.

Ok,  now onto the reason for todays tonight's post:
Day 1: Christmas Traditions

This is kinda tough. I mean we have the same schedule every year but as far as special traditions we have some pretty special ones too! Growing up Thanksgiving Eve we always spent the night at my Aunt and Uncles house. (This year will be the 1st year to not spend the night. So sad....) There are only 7 of us total, my cousins. My mom is the oldest of 3 and one of her brothers had 3 children and the other has a step-son. We always did fun activities that night. We hang out and eat dinner too! We are all getting together this year for dinner and hangout time...just no spend the night. :( Thanksgiving morning we rotate every year with my mom's side (with her siblings) to decide the home that we gather in. We eat breakfast together. Homemade biscuits and gravy. AMAZING!!! After breakfast growing up we would head to my dad's parents house. Since my g-pa passed away last year we have moved Thanksgiving dinner to my parent's home. Mark and I hang out with that side of the family for a while before loading up and heading back home. The drive is about 2 hours. We travel straight to his parent's house. His parent's host Thanksgiving dinner for both sides of his family together. There are so many people there and LOTS of food too! Everyone stays really late, like late enough to get the food back out and eat again. The ladies all create a shopping plan for BLACK Friday. I have participated in this event EVERY year since I met Mark. We are talking 3am people...3am....it's so fun!!! I think I mentioned before one year (before my time) they shopped for 24 hours!!! YIKES! Mark and I usually set out Christmas up on Friday too. This year we have decided to wait until Saturday for this. I love doing it and I want decorating for Wyatt's first Christmas to be fun. While shopping Mark and his dad hang the outside lights on their house and ours. (they have to do something to work off that turkey)  Setting up Christmas somehow seems to always end with us being so stressed. Not this year, things are different, we are not stressing...we are enjoying each other. Saturday is set aside for setting up Christmas. We have planned to go to a movie on Friday night with Mark's brother's family. A fun NEW tradition!
Growing up we got to pick a new Hallmark ornament for the tree every year. Funny how things work....so did Mark! Ha! We used to set this tree up in our basement but we have decided to start setting this tree in our living room. A NEW TRADITION! It's a 9ft pre-lit tree we used as decoration at our wedding ceremony. Ahhh, I know cute huh?!?! I like my tree to all match and look perfect but I have decided after having a baby Christmas/Holidays are not about my OCD, I am really trying to make it a point not to stress.
This may make me a bit sad...I know we have opened a new chapter in our lives and this is all a part of God's plan but growing up we would take a whole day and set up Christmas too! Each one of us would get to put "our" ornaments on the tree. I would help my mom set up her Dickens Village. (which I still do) We would listen to Christmas music and be together. During the holiday season growing up we would usually paint a plate or complete some fun memorable craft. This is a tradition we are carrying on with Wyatt. :) We also have a "Christmas Dinner" at my parents house. This dinner is with a few families we grew up with. It's always so fun! We all really enjoying being together. I love traditions! Christmas Eve we always do with my mom's side of the family. We attend the Christmas Eve service at church (something we made a very important part of the night) and then go back to PARTY! Ha! We play a few fun games, open presents, and eat! Christmas Day we ALWAYS open presents at our own home then head to g-mas. My brother, sister, and I all slept in the same room together. We always opened our stockings really early together before mom and dad woke up. We would go get them to begin opening gifts. Mom would cook breakfast and her dad would come over to eat with us. We would then load up and go to g-mas!!! We would eat, open presents, play, and be with family the rest of the day!! What great memories we have!
Now as a married couple Mark and I switch every year. It's the only fair way we can do it. We try really hard to be with everyone. We have a 2 hour drive between families. This will be our 3rd Christmas as a married couple. This Christmas we will be with my family (mom's side) for a few days before Christmas (including Christmas Eve) we then drive home to our own house Christmas eve. We wake up Christmas morning at our house. Then this year we will travel to his side of the family. This year we will be celebrating at his Aunt and Uncle's house. (his mom's brother's house) Next year we will swap...crazy I know!
Mark and I have decided to complete the Advent by completing the reading and scripture throughout December this year. We plan to incorporate "elf on the Shelf" with Wyatt as he grows  too. Wyatt will also receive a "letter from Santa." (This was a St. John's Hospital event we participated in, it's very close to our hearts as our nephew is a graduate of the NICU at St.Johns) I know this is a long post but I want to have it to look back and read. Many people keep saying or asking me about this Christmas. Why I want/am doing all this...."Wyatt isn't even going to remember." Well, Mark and I will remember and we want to begin special traditions with our children.
WOW...what a post, it's now almost midnight...should I being Day 2??? HA!!!

Fill in the blank Friday...

My favorite Thanksgiving food is...I am giving myself 2 here because one side of my family serves breakfast while the other is a little more traditional. Breakfast: biscuits and gravy Dinner: potato casserole..mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pizza Pie

Yesterday was a whirlwind! Mark's mom met at my house and we traveled out to Mark's school. (it's about 30 min. away) He had a long day yesterday so we decided to help him out a bit and bring Wyatt for lunch. Good mama huh?!?! Ha! We usually eat at a fun restaurant called "Global Quesadilla."
(I know what a terrible picture...blame that one on a google image)

After lunch we did a little Christmas Shopping! LOVE IT! Ho ho ho!!! Last night Mark and I met some friends at a pizza place down at the Central West End. It's called "Pi."

They have Chicago style pizza. Deep Dish....literally a pie....

It was SO SO SO good and we had a great time visiting with friends. (we were baby free too)

Thanksgiviing Traditions & 12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge

Thanksgiving Traditions....after reading a few blogs this morning I was challenge to share my "Thanksgiving Traditions." I have to say this is one of the easiest holiday's for Mark and I as a couple. Praise the Lord!

While growing up we (by "we" I mean my siblings and cousins) always spent the night at my aunt and uncles house. (my mom's brother) They don't have any children so this was always such a fun night for all of us! We did all different things throughout the years! There are 6 of us total....we still all spent the night there last year. With my mom's side of the family we always do breakfast. It's such a nice change...we don't eat 4 Thanksgiving dinners like most families! Ha! After breakfast we used to head over to my grandparent's house about 10 mins. away. Since my g-pa passed last year we started having Thanksgiving for my dad's side at my parent's. It's way less stress on my grandma. Mark and I spend time with family then head back home (2 hrs.) to his parent's house. His mom has Thanksgiving dinner around 5, everyone is there about 3 but they don't eat right when they get there. Lucky for us she has both sides at her house. There are usually over 50 people there. It's a grand ol'time! We eat turkey, then dessert, then leftovers....all the women sit around and create a game plan for black Friday. Everyone goes home around 11 pm. We (the women) are back at Mark's parents the next morning at 3am!!!! Yes, you read that right we are "those crazy folks." It;s a BLAST. Mark's mom and aunts have shopped for over 24 hours before! LOL! Some people don't like the crowds but it's always been fun for me because I am not trying to get anything special. I am just along for the ride. It's a great experience. Lots of talks, food, Starbucks, food, laughs....lines too! Ha! I usually bail about 3-4 pm and head home to set up Christmas at our house with Mark. Phew....what a day. (While we are out shopping all day Mark and his dad set up all the "outside illuminations" (that's what his dad called the Christmas lights...ha) What great Thanksgiving traditions right!?!?!? This weekend....

What a weekend! It goes by so fast...yuck. Monday already?!?! I hate it only because Mark doesn't get to be with us 24/7. Welcome to the real world huh? LOL! We had so much fun this weekend just doing our thing...ha! Friday Wyatt and I took a walk while waiting for daddy to get home...

We took a few pictures from trees...too beautiful to resist!

Friday afternoon when Mark got home we went to the local library. L.O.V.E. that place! I got a few books and I couldn't leave there without some Christmas music!!

Friday night (on a whim) we ended up at Mark's brother's house. They were having another couple over and invited us...it was a fun time! Cousin Cruz loves Wyatt so much, it's seriously one of the cutest things to watch.

I don't have any pictures but this one...in the background there are 3 girls. They were all sitting on a blanket playing so nice. When I said "say cheese" Cruz decided he was going to jump up and open his mouth. Typical boy right!?!?!  Ha!
Saturday morning Mark and I dropped Wyatt off at his parents. We came back home, raked and bagged leaves.....for 3 hours! That was only the backyard too. I did the front Friday morning with Wyatt in his bouncer in the yard.

That is not my backyard...igf it was we would still be raking....google picture :)
We hung out over at his parent's for a bit when we went to pick Wyatt up. We ate lunch there too! They are moving furniture around and are re-doing their basement due to a recent flood. We were given a new full size bed!! YAHOO!! We put it downstairs in Mark office (no pictures, it's messy right now). It will be great to have for family. We only had a guest bedroom so now my brother won't have to sleep on the couch! Then last night Mark and I just hung out at home. So nice to RELAX!!! Wyatt decided for the first time in his life last night to see the hours of 4-7. Not cool at all! I think he is getting teeth...slowly and surely...so....not fun! We didn't make it to church this morning. Way to tired and when he finally fell asleep there was not way I was going to wake him up. When he did finally wake he had a messy breakfast.

Mark decided to play golf this morning with some friends so Wyatt and I just hung out at home. My brother and sister in law came and picked Wyatt and I up for a b-day party. It was Liviya's 1st b-day! So precious....

Sorry for small pictures, they are from my phone and when I make them bigger the quality isn't good. :)

Wyatt had a great time just hanging out....LOL!
We ended the weekend with our first trip to the Sappington Farmer's Market. So fun!!! Hope you'll have a great Monday!!!
