Day 1: Insanity Workout

Today is the day. Today I being the "attempt" to get my body back. I have never been one to use video's to workout but now that I am at home most of the day it seems appropriate. This workout is a 60 day plan. It consists of 6 days a week. That is not possible with the busy life we lead and having a 7 week old baby so...I have decided to adapt it to my life. :) Every Monday I will post an "Insanity Update."

We do not own a scale. Mark has always been a firm believer that weight doesn't matter. A healthy lifestyle...eating right and exercising. He always said "use you clothes as a judge." Ha, that doesn't work well for me.

Before I got pregnant, LIKE EVERY WOMAN, I was always a bit worried about how I would carry a child. Even more I was worried how my body would react AFTER having a child. (Let me say I do not say these things to be vain AT ALL, this is my own journal. ) :) I have never been a person who has had to worry about my weight or what I eat. It's runs in my family. I am a snacker!! I love to snack and boy do I LOVE my FOUNTAIN diet cokes too! With that said I have always been a bit concerned...what if I have to watch what I eat and start REALLY actually working out for a reason other than social or because it's good for me. YIKES!

Well, so the other day I was visiting a friend. I went into her bathroom only to find a scale YELLING my name. Ha! (Let me say I only looked at the scale at the Dr.'s throughout my pregnancy MAYBE 5 times. Remember I went double the normal person too!) I know how much I weighed when I got pregnant and much to my disliking I know pretty much how much I weighed right before I gave birth...thanks to the rude nurse that checked me in.

With that said...God didn't bless me with a pregnancy where I carried one child but I was double blessed I carried twins for 36 weeks! So...I am pretty sure I gained about 55 pounds from start to finish. I listened to the scale the other day at my friends and 7 weeks post c-section I have 5 pounds to lose!! Now, I am not really working out to lose weight...I just want my body to be like it was before. Ha, I know..I know (my mom is laughing as she reads this...) I don't think my body was some crazy great thing but I was comfortable. I want to get there again...I am going to work to get there again...so it's Monday and HERE I GO!!!!!

  1. Good luck! I haven't had a baby, but I still need to get back in shape!! I bought Jillian's 30 day shred, but of course I haven't started it!

  2. Good for you for gearing up to get back in shape after your pregnancy. I alternated P90X with running for 6 months after having our triplets. Like you, I was mainly in maintenance mode since I lost my pregnancy weight from breastfeeding/pumping. One recommendation- try insanity, but then look into P90X. It sounds like you want to combine other workouts like running, swimming, etc. and just a warning, insanity will wipe your body out. After 6 months of P90X I started Insanity and lasted 2 weeks. My running was slowing down and it just was too much intense cardio EVERY day. If you want to talk more about this, feel free to email me at: erinnmerritt@gmail.com. Best of luck!

Also, check out my friend Shawna's blog where she recently wrote a post about pregnancy and losing the baby weight (I am featured in her post).

  5. You'll get there, it just may take some time. Working out and eating healthy will help immensely but some of it is just time. Isaac is 6 months old and in the past month my body finally seems to have shifted back to it's normal conditions. I'd been under my prepregnancy weight since Isaac was one week old, but just now feel like I'm back to my old self. Well, other than my huge breastfeeding boobs haha!

  6. Way to only be 5 lbs away from your goal!!! I finished Insanity a few weeks back and LOVED it!!! I'm also not a real scale watcher but let me tell you my clothes fit WAY better than before following the 6 day plan....and I'm one of the ones that HAS to watch what I eat and exercise regularly to stay at a healthy weight. SO- I'm SURE you will see the great results. Just be prepared to work out. HARD. I mean, REALLY work out!! Have fun!!

And thanks for the great blog....I loved reading your pregnancy adventure, and now I love seeing your little man grow!
