Thanksgiving Traditions

Last week Kelly's Korner was Thanksgiving Traditions. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Since I have been married Thanksgiving is a holiday that is relaxed! We (my cousins and my siblings) have always spent the night with our Aunt and Uncle on Thanksgiving Eve. This is always a fun night, we have done many things over the years. (gone to the movies, went to dinner, go-carts, even just stayed in and ordered pizza) We wake up on Thanksgiving morning and eat breakfast with my mom's side of the family. HOMEADE BISCUITS AND GRAVY!!! Then we travel to Grandma's house (my dad's mom) for lunch and relaxation! What a day right?!!?
Well....then I got married....:) Mark and I have started our own traditions too! We are able to make everyone happy and not even feel stressed. After eating with my grandma instead of sleeping on the couch, with everyone else, we pack up and head to St. Louis.
Thankfully Mark's family has Thanksgiving at his parents, both sides, over 40 people!!! It's so fun!! We usually get there just in time to....EAT AGAIN!! What else do you do on Thanksgiving? His family Thanksgiving is like no other. I am pretty sure they eat twice. The big dinner...wait a bit...pies....then leftovers with Durkee. (Don't know if that's the correct spelling!?!?) You can't talk bad about it until you have given it a try. Then as the night goes on all the women begin to plan the strategy for the next morning. When I say morning I mean...3 am!!!! Oh yes!!! SHOPPING!!!! The "day after Thanksgiving shopping" is an entire post in itself! :)
This year Mark and I have decided to start a small tradition in our home. My mom recently gave a book to me about Thanksgiving. (I will post title later) We are going to read a little each Thursday evening when we have dinner, something fun....to someday do with our family. :)
There is a little insight to our Thanksgiving Traditions! Enjoy this time!

  1. This is a great article and my family also have a lot of Thanksgiving traditions. One, we love to do is go on a hayride together. It is nice because at the end we get to pick pumpkins. The last few years we have been lucky because the weather has been nice. My family also likes to have a huge Thanksgiving dinner. I try to find the biggest turkey out there because my boys like to eat. Last year we had our good friends join us because they were having some money issues and could not afford to host their own Thanksgiving dinner. I told them that there is always the option of getting cash for a settlement to help out during rough times.
